IDEALS
I thought when I grew old, I'd grow
Philosophical.
People expect you to.
Viewing life from a lofty perspective
Would be a help.
Instead, trifles loom large,
There being little else of importance happening.
Worst of all, I seem to be missing
A lot of my old ideals.
Help me find them again, God.
Or help me find new ones.
I haven't worked out a real philosophy yet
And maybe I never will.
I don't know.
I do know that a couple of worthwhile ideals
Are a big help getting up mornings.
